Holiday Inspired | 2022 Holiday Release

As the holidays near, we are thinking of those perfect party dresses and outfits that will shimmer and shine in all settings! Our new holiday fabrics had to meet the criteria of being both glamorous and also comfortable to wear. We typically gravitate towards knit fabrics for comfort because they allow us a free range of motion as well as the fact that they are less fussy to fit! Our new Paisley Embossed Stretch Velvet & Lurex Cube Poly Spandex fabrics fit the bill and will add the perfect amount of glimmer to your holiday outfits!

Feeling uninspired? Let's turn it over to our talented sewist team who will light up the page with their marvelous makes!

    Leah | @leah_wink
    Pattern: Styla Patterns Lafayette
Color: Elderberry Paisley Embossed Stretch Velvet

"If you’re looking for a rich, elegant fabric for your holiday makes, this embossed velvet is absolutely perfect!
All the colors are gorgeous, and the embossed pattern brings sophistication to the fabric.
I sewed up the Styla Lafayette bodysuit to wear with high-rise dress pants. The bell sleeves bring extra drama as the light plays off the different tones of the velvet."

    Cynthia | @sewn_by_cynthia
Pattern: Love Notions Tess Sheath Dress
Color: Spruce Paisley Embossed Stretch Velvet

"Luxurious is the first word that comes to mind as the best description of this embossed velvet! I treat myself to a fancy dress every December for my wedding anniversary and since green is my favorite color, I jumped at the chance to sew this fabric. It has a lot of stretch but great recovery…perfect for dancing the night away! I chose the Tessa Sheath Dress from Love Notions and added waist ties for my fancy dress. My favorite part…my fancy dress is also incredibly comfortable! This fabric is suitable for a variety of patterns such as a pant suit or even a cardigan. The jewel tone color options are classic and timeless…I will be wearing this dress for many years!"

    Kyema | @epicpooka
    Pattern: Georgette Irma Dress
Color: Black Paisley Embossed Stretch Velvet

"When Kayla said that Surge was going to carry an embossed velvet, I knew I needed a fancy party dress! This fabric is so soft and luxurious in person. The paisley print is visible but still understated. It's the perfect amount of "extra" that you'd want for a classy holiday event. I chose to step out of my comfort zone and sew from a designer I had never tried before, Georgette Patterns Irma Dress. She has lots of amazing designs and this pattern fit on the first try which was cool. From one sewist to another, I would make sure you are comfy constructing without much direction though. The patterns do have seam allowances but are not nested. As a solid pare shape who uses a projector, it was a tad bit challenging. The fabric was a breeze to sew - just make sure you're using lots of pins or clips so the slippery velvet doesn't shift! I was surprised that it didn't shed as much as other velvets I have used in the past. You are going to want this for your dress, kid's dresses, or even a fancy skirt! This is going to be the dress I wear to the Seattle Christmas Symphony in December. I am so pleased with it and can't wait for date night! 🙂"

    Bernice | @sewbee73
Pattern: Sinclair Patterns Pebble Top & Dress
Color: Dark Blueberry Embossed Stretch Velvet

"This embossed stretch velvet fabric feels lush and soft and I love the rich color. Make sure to cut all your pieces in the same direction (and I picked with the nap running down) and increase the differential on your serger and coverstitch (but test scraps on your machines to check for the ideal settings). I usually dread sewing with velvet which is shifty but this fabric wasn't too bad though I used more pins than with other fabrics I typically sew with. I love how festive this dress turned out but it's so comfortable!"

    Kamali | @kamali.obiagu
Pattern: Pattern Mash of Unleashed Patterns Enlighten & George & Ginger Selfie Shirt
Color: Gold Lurex Cube Poly Spandex

"This fabric is beautiful in person and I love that it sparkles in the light! I made the Unleashed Patterns Enlighten and modified the skirt to make panels so I could have a slit. The sleeves are from the Selfie Shirt pattern from George & Ginger. This fabric is perfect for a fun or formal time, I think I need a maxi skirt next!"

    Florence | @ftmom3
Pattern: Socialite Patterns Cross Front Off Shoulder, Sweetheart & A-Line Skirt
Color:  Rose Gold Lurex Cube Poly Spandex

"Rose Gold is the combination of pure gold & copper: luxurious & durable/strong. This fabric makes me feel both glamorous & strong. The Rose Gold lurex print sparkles & shines with every movement you will be eye-catching at every angle. I wanted to keep my make simple & classic to highlight this print. This is a mash up of the Socialite Patterns Cross front off shoulder & sweetheart bodice with A-line skirt.
So make sure to add this beauty to your holiday season makes."

    Summer | @summersewist
Pattern: Mash Up of Bella Sunshine Designs Sansa Flares & Sonia Estep Designs Kendel Dress (Patreon Exclusive)
Color: Silver Lurex Cube Poly Spandex

"I didn’t know I needed, or wanted, to dress like a disco ball until I saw the Sparkly Lurex Square Knit. I actually giggled with delight while sewing my outfit because it’s such a fun fabric. The silver threads sparkle in the light while the back is smooth and soft, making it comfortable to wear. I used the Sansa Flares from Bella Sunshine Design and a modified Kendel dress from Sonia Estep Designs’ Patreon library. I lengthened the bodice to hit at my waist and hemmed the bottom, omitting the band and skirt."
